Change of Leadership for the Community of People Living with HIV

October 1, 2013 - This week, the GNP+ says farewell to Kevin Moody, International Coordinator/CEO for GNP+ for the last seven years.

Dr. Moody steps down from his post today, on 1st October 2013. His role at the organization has been pivotal in driving forward the agenda for people living with HIV on the global stage, giving voice to many around the world.

Dr. Moody joined GNP+ in 2006, at a formative time in the HIV sector.

Under his leadership, GNP+ has played a critical role in redefining the GIPA principle, and ensuring people living with HIV remain at the centre of the response through the development of the policy framework, Positive Health, Dignity and Prevention.

Further, the learning-by-doing model pioneered by GNP+ through the Leadership Through Accountability Programme has enabled national networks of people living with HIV to effect real policy change. This has resulted in people living with HIV to better realise their human rights, and enhance access to prevention, treatment, care and support services.

Most recently, Dr. Moody oversaw the revision of the People Living with HIV Global Advocacy Agenda, which rearticulates the shared needs of the entire community.

Dr. Moody said: "My time at GNP+ has seen incredible progress for the community, and it has been a wonderful journey. I'm proud of what we have achieved in that time, and feel honoured to have been a part of it. I am humbled by the depth of expertise and passion which runs throughout the community, and the extraordinary efforts of individuals that make this movement unique."

Until the incoming Executive Director is appointed at GNP+, Raoul Fransen, Senior Policy Adviser at International Civil Society Support, and a coordinator of the Free Space Process, will be filling the role of interim International Coordinator/CEO.

Mr. Fransen said: "I was involved with GNP+ as interim Executive Director before Kevin joined the organisation, and I have been in the privileged position of seeing GNP+ flourish under his tenure. He has held the organisation to the highest levels of accountability to people living with HIV."

Under Dr. Moody's leadership, the governance of the network has evolved to ensure GNP+ can hold itself accountable to the diverse community of people living with HIV.

Co-Chair of the Board, Anna {akowicz, said: "GNP+ is unique amongst the community in the high standards that we hold ourselves to. Under Kevin's leadership, we have seen a strategic review of the organisation, which was directed by the voices from the community. It resulted in the development of a five-year strategic plan, and the introduction of a new constitution which recognises the diversity of the community, brings representatives of key populations to the table and shapes the future of the response to the HIV epidemic."

Dr. Moody has been instrumental in building relationships with the UN family and international NGOs, as well as the broader PLHIV community, including key population networks. He played a critical role in convening the Living Partnership, a consortia of organisations and networks that coordinated the Positive Leadership Summits of 2008 and 2012.

Co-Chair of the Board, Ryan Maduro said: "While we are sad to see Kevin go, we are very grateful for the strong network he has built, the paradigm shift he has brought to the nature of community involvement and the ongoing development of strong PLHIV advocacy. We hope that our new appointment will take GNP+ into a bright new era, building on the strong foundations Kevin leaves behind."

Dr. Moody thanks GNP+ Board Members and staff - current and former - and expresses his gratitude to partners and donor throughout the years.
