Legacy Lunch 2013 Celebrates LGBT Leaders' Contribution to Vancouver Pride

Vancouver Pride Society Celebrates Inaugural TELUS Pride Legacy Award Recipients at Intimate Metropolitan Hotel Vancouver Event

Vancouver, July 25, 2013 - The Metropolitan Hotel Vancouver is honoured to host a very special event in this year's Vancouver Pride Week festivities. The Legacy Lunch 2013, an elegant midday reception, will celebrate eight inaugural TELUS Pride Legacy Award recipients for their contributions to promoting and upholding the core values of the Vancouver Pride Society (VPS).

"This year the Vancouver Pride Society has attempted to put a face behind the heroic stories of change in our community," says VPS general manager Ray Lam. "The Legacy Awards are intended to capture those stories of unsung heroes that bind our community." Lam continues, "Being queer makes us fellow travellers. But it's the moments we share that make us a community."

At the Legacy Lunch 2013, taking place on Thursday, August 1st, guests will be given an exclusive chance to mix and mingle with trailblazers in the Vancouver Pride community, who will be presented with a commemorative award by VPS president Tim Richards.

In addition to all eight of the TELUS Pride Legacy Award recipients, guests will include: Joe Average R.C.A., internationally-acclaimed artist, and Zdravko Cimbaljevic, Grand Marshall of the 2013 Vancouver Pride Parade and founding father of Montenegro's modern LGBT movement.

"We are thrilled to have augmented our ongoing relationship with the Vancouver Pride Society through such an important event," says Joe Dias, General Manager of the Metropolitan Hotel Vancouver. "Legacy Lunch 2013, which honours strong community leadership in Vancouver, fits perfectly with our own values and commitment to delivering the very best our city has to offer."

The intimate event will be hosted by the Metropolitan Hotel Vancouver in the luxurious, 18th floor Tai Pan Suite. The reception will include delicious Cascadian fare prepared by the accomplished culinary team of Diva at the Met and bubbly from VPS partner and event co-presenter Barefoot Wines.

"The inaugural TELUS Pride Legacy Awards were full of inspirational moments and it was a thrill to celebrate alongside an impressive gathering of past, present and future Vancouver LGBTQA community leaders," says Kasey Reese, Vice-president, Risk Management and Chief Internal Auditor at TELUS. "Our TELUS team recognizes that supporting diversity and inclusiveness helps build stronger, healthier communities. By supporting these awards and their commitment to empowering and encouraging LGBTQA youth in our community, we can collectively ensure a friendly future for all."
