PRIDE Legacy Awards

This award recognizes an individual whose work has promoted sexual health, or has supported individuals with HIV/AIDS.

July 19, 2013 - Vancouver, B.C. - PINK Category Finalists: Perry Boldt, Sr. Merry Q. Contrary and Bradford McIntyre.

The first annual PRIDE Legacy Awards Presented by TELUS is taking place this year to celebrate the individuals that built and continue to shape our community with their unabashed Pride. We will showcase community members that promote the Legacy of Pride in Vancouver through their community service.

The Selection Committee is comprised of these community organizations: A Loving Spoonful, Adoptive Families Association of BC, AIDS Vancouver, Dr. Peter AIDS Foundation, Little Sisters, Loud Business, Mabel League Softball, Our City of Colours, OutlookTV, PFLAG, Pinoy Pride, Positive Living BC, Qmunity, the Empress of Canada Foundation and Xtra.

The eight awards each represent a colour of the rainbow flag as defined by Gilbert Baker, the artist who gave our community the rainbow flag.

Finalists are followed, winner announced at the event

Pink - Sexuality (Sexual Health+HIV/AIDS Awareness)
This award recognizes an individual whose work has promoted sexual health, or has supported individuals with HIV/AIDS.

Red - Life (Lifetime Achievement)
This award recognizes an outstanding individual whose work has enriched Vancouver's LGBTQ community. Individuals must have dedicated at least 10 years of volunteer service to one or more organizations that promotes one or more of the Vancouver Pride Society's core values.

Orange - Healing (Sports)
This award recognizes an outstanding individual whose work in sports has enriched, or raised the profile of, Vancouver's LGBTQ community.

Yellow - Sunlight (Community Superstar)
This award recognizes an outstanding individual whose work has elevated the profile and prominence of Vancouver's LGBTQ community.

Green - Environment (Safe spaces)
This award recognizes an individual whose work has promoted safer spaces in our schools, communities, and celebrations to ensure everyone can feel safe and be Proud.

Turquoise - Art (Art)
The award recognizes an outstanding queer artist whose work has created dialogue around a key social issue in Vancouver's LGBTQ Community.

Blue - Harmony (Community Leaders)
This award recognizes an outstanding individual that has dedicated endless hours as a committee or board member to create real lasting change in Vancouver's LGBTQ Community through their volunteerism. Eligible nominees include individuals who are currently serving, and individuals who have retired within five years of the award date.

Purple - Spirit (Youth)
This award recognizes an outstanding youth who embodies the Spirit of Pride. This award is intended to highlight the work of young people to promote Vancouver's LGBTQ community and create stronger, equal, communities.
