ICW's International Steering Committee Elects Diverse New Leadership
December 15, 2014 - Nairobi, Kenya - ICW is proud to announce the election of its new Global Chair, Martha Tholanah, from
the Southern African Region. To support her in this role is Marama Pala, from the Asian Pacific Region, who was elected as Vice Chair and Deloris
Dockery, from the North American Region, who was elected Treasurer.
The elections took place during the International Steering Committee's Annual General Meeting in Nairobi, Kenya on Tuesday, December 9th, 2014.
"I am so excited that after many years of building we have maintained strong governance and leadership in ICW. I was honored to act as the Global
Chair and to work so intimately with the team during the transition of the Global Office from Argentina to Kenya. I am confident that Martha is
going to carry the torch as she is a strong devout feminist, activist, and ICW champion. Her diplomacy and her calmness are her strengths.
Congratulations Martha, Marama, and Deloris," said Teresia Njoki Otieno, the outgoing ICW Global Chair.
This team has a wealth of experience in the international HIV and women's movement. Martha is currently the Chair of the ICW Southern African Board,
Marama is the Co Chair on the International Indigenous Working Group on HIV and Director on the Board of International Council of AIDS Service
Organizations (ICASO), and Deloris is a long standing ISC member and former Chair of GNP+ as well as the Chair of the ICW North American Board.
" I have been an ICW member since 2004 and I am amazed and proud at the many transitions that ICW have taken. As the new chair, I am committed to
honoring the foundations laid by the visionary women who founded ICW in 1992, building on the hard work of past leadership, and nurturing a
vibrant network that will deliver for all the members in their diversity. Together WE ARE ICW!" said Martha Tholanah the newly elected
Global Chair of ICW.
