April 4, 2011 - New York - Anderson Cooper, anchor of CNN's weeknight Anderson Cooper 360,
will receive the 2011 Compañero Award on May 10th at the Latino Commission on AIDS's annual fundraising gala Cielo Latino,
the Latino Commission on AIDS announced today.
The renowned award, created by the Latino Commission to recognize leaders outside of the Latino
community, who, through their efforts, have contributed to improving the quality of life of people living with HIV/AIDS,
promote awareness, education and prevention opportunities in response to the HIV/AIDS epidemic, will be presented by
Guillermo Chacon, President of the Latino Commission on AIDS.
"Through his often times provocative approach to exposing injustices in communities near and far, Anderson Cooper has
brought national attention to the AIDS crisis in the United States, said Chacon. "Because of his determination
and dedication to "unmasking" the various issues related to the AIDS epidemic, the Latino Commission is proud to
present Anderson with this honor and have him reaffirm his commitment to raised awareness and actions to attain
healthy communities."
The awards, hosted by NBC's Tony Llamas, will consist of a cocktail reception and silent auction followed by the
awards presentation and dinner. Live entertainment following dinner will be provided by DJ Henry Knowles and
the Grammy-nominated salsa band the New Swing Sextet.
Cielo Latino is the largest annual national fundraiser for our community in its fight against AIDS. The money
raised each year allows the Commission to continue to provide critical services to thousands through our programs and
initiatives and millions more through our social marketing education, awareness, outreach, and treatment education
campaigns. This year's theme - Unmask AIDS- speaks to critical co-morbidity health issues, along with our
efforts to combat stigma and isolation, and in particular to highlight the harsh reality of the
disproportionate impact of HIV/AIDS faced by some of our most vulnerable populations.

Anderson Cooper de CNN recibirá reconocimiento en la gala
anual Cielo Latino
Nueva York - Anderson Cooper, presentador del programa Anderson Cooper 360, que se
transmite de lunes a viernes por CNN, recibirá el reconocimiento Compañero 2011 el día 10 de mayo durante la gala
anual de recaudación de fondos Cielo Latino, anunció el día de hoy la Comisión Latina sobre el SIDA.
El reconocido galardón, creado por la Comisión Latina sobre el SIDA para honrar a líderes que,
fuera de la comunidad Latina y a través de sus esfuerzos, han contribuido al mejoramiento de la calidad de vida de las
personas viviendo con VIH/SIDA, promueven la concientización, educación y oportunidades de prevención en respuesta a
la epidemia del VIH/SIDA, será presentado por Guillermo Chacón, Presidente de la Comisión Latina sobre el SIDA.
"A través de su enfoque frecuentemente provocativo para exponer las injusticias en comunidades cercanas y lejanas,
Anderson Cooper ha atraído atención nacional a la crisis del SIDA en los Estados Unidos" dijo Chacón. "Debido a su
determinación y dedicación para "desenmascarar" los diferentes temas relacionados a la epidemia del SIDA, la
Comisión Latina sobre el SIDA se enorgullece al presentar este honor a Anderson y así dejarle reafirmar su
compromiso de levantar conciencia y promover acciones que nos ayuden a lograr comunidades saludables"
El evento, conducido por Tony Llamas de NBC, consistirá de una recepción y una subasta silenciosa,
seguida de la ceremonia premiación y la cena. El entretenimiento en vivo estará a cargo del DJ
Henry Knowles y de la orquesta de salsa New Swing Sextet, que ha sido nominada para un premio Grammy.
Cielo Latino es el evento de recaudación de fondos más grande a nivel nacional en nuestra comunidad luchando en
contra del SIDA. El dinero recaudado cada año permite que la Comisión continúe promoviendo servicios críticos a miles
de personas a través de nuestros programas e iniciativas y a millones mas a través de nuestros esfuerzos de mercadeo
social educativo, concientización, alcance comunitario y campañas a favor de tratamientos. El tema de este año
es -Desenmascarando al SIDA- el cual se refiere a las co-infecciones que constituyen un problema critico que
no esta siendo tratado de forma suficiente. Además, la Camisón cuenta con otros esfuerzos para combatir
el estigma y el aislamiento, y en particular para poner de manifiesto la difícil realidad del impacto
desproporcionado del VIH/SIDA que esta afatando a las poblaciones más vulnerables.
