Roll out the Red Carpet with the Canadian AIDS Society this World AIDS Day

December 1, 2011 - OTTAWA, ONTARIO - Commemorating World AIDS Day on the 30th year of HIV and on its 25th anniversary, the Canadian AIDS Society is inviting corporate leaders, individuals and communities to join the HIV/AIDS movement in Canada on the occasion of its fourth annual World AIDS Day Gala. As CAS marks these two important milestones, the Gala celebrates the contributions of leaders in the community HIV/AIDS movement, while raising funds in support of the organization's work on behalf of community-based AIDS service organizations across the country.

"This year's World AIDS Day Gala allows us to highlight our continued leadership role in responding to HIV/AIDS in Canada as we have been doing for the past 25 years," says Monique Doolittle-Romas, CAS Executive Director. "We have had many successes and changes in the community-based movement over the past 25 years, but an anniversary also gives us time to reflect on the needs of the community and of people living with and affected by HIV and AIDS. Prevention is changing, with new methods being researched every day, access to treatments is more important today than ever, and we are still facing too much stigma in our communities. We have our work cut out for us in the coming years."

The program for the evening will include the preview of the Reignite documentary showing the faces of HIV in Canada with producer Paul Saltzman, the presentation of the first Lifetime Achievement Award in Memory of Jack Layton and the CAS 2011 Corporate Leadership Award which will be presented to john st. as well as a live auction with celebrity auctioneer Olivia Chow, MP Trinity-Spadina. The Gala will also feature Evelyn Farha of the Farha Foundation as a guest speaker.

Al McNutt, Chair of the CAS Board of Directors states, "We are very proud to present the first-ever Lifetime Achievement Award in Memory of Jack Layton and the Corporate Leadership Award to john st. for their tireless work on the Scotiabank AIDS Walk for Life."

The Fourth Annual World AIDS Day Gala is sponsored by ViiV Healthcare in partnership with Shire, Rx&D: Canada's Research-Based Pharmaceutical Companies, Gilead and Delta Hotels.
