Documentary film about Canada's HIV movement
January 11, 2011 - As the Canadian AIDS Society (CAS) prepares to commemorate its 25th anniversary in
2011, we will be embarking on the production of a multi-platform documentary film to
outline key achievements within Canada's HIV movement and to take a look at where the
movement needs to head, while interweaving a series of poignant personal stories of
people living with HIV, or working in the field of HIV.
We are pleased to be collaborating with award-winning producers Peter Raymont and
Paul Saltzman. Paul was most recently recognized for his highly acclaimed documentary
Prom Night in Mississippi and Peter's film, Genuis Within: The inner life of Glenn Gould
was recently short listed for an Academy Award.
With the theme Reignite selected for the project, our primary objective is to revive
awareness of HIV/AIDS at a time when there is a general complacency surrounding the
disease. Our hope is to motivate a new generation to take action to end the epidemic and
to spark discussion surrounding HIV/AIDS with a view to advancing related human
rights issues. Ultimately, this will help combat stigma and discrimination experienced by
both those at risk of HIV/AIDS and affected by it. The project will include a dedicated
website, as well as a learning component that will see lesson plans developed around
specific sections of the film.
Your voice is important in telling our collective story. We would also appreciate your
assistance in uncovering the many individual voices that need to be heard during this
stage of the epidemic. While you may not necessarily be featured on camera in the final
product, your participation would lend vital background information to the making of the
documentary. We are confident that the final product would also echo your voice.

Documentaire du mouvement du VIH au Canada
Comme la Société canadienne du sida (SCS) se prépare à souligner son 25e anniversaire
en 2011, nous entreprenons la production d'un documentaire multiplateforme pour
présenter les principales réalisations du mouvement du VIH au Canada et pour donner un
aperçu de la direction que doit prendre le mouvement, tout en incorporant une série
d'histoires vécues touchantes de personnes vivant avec le VIH, ou qui travaillent dans le
domaine.
Nous sommes heureux de collaborer avec les producteurs primés Peter Raymont et Paul
Saltzman. Paul a récemment été reconnu pour son documentaire chaudement accueilli,
Prom Night in Mississippi, et le film de Peter, Genius Within: The inner life of Glenn
Gould a récemment été présélectionné pour un Oscar.
Sous le thème Rallumer choisi pour le projet, notre principal objectif consiste à raviver la
sensibilisation au VIH/sida, à une époque où la vigilance est généralement en baisse face
à la maladie. Nous espérons motiver une nouvelle génération à agir en vue de mettre fin à
l'épidémie, et susciter des discussions sur le VIH/sida, dans l'optique de faire évoluer les
enjeux connexes des droits de la personne. Finalement, cela contribuera à combattre la
stigmatisation et la discrimination dont font l'objet ceux qui sont à risque du VIH/sida et
ceux qui en sont affectés. Le projet comprendra un site Web réservé, ainsi qu'un volet
d'apprentissage qui comportera des plans de cours inspirés de sections spécifiques du
film.
Votre voix importe pour raconter notre histoire collective. Nous apprécierions aussi votre
aide pour trouver les nombreuses voix individuelles qui doivent se faire entendre à cette
phase de l'épidémie. Bien que vous n'apparaissiez pas nécessairement à la caméra dans le
