Lace Up Your Walking Shoes and Support a Great Cause With Farha Foundation's CA MARCHE 2011

19 years later and still walking for the fight against AIDS!

September 13, 2011 - MONTREAL, QUEBEC - The Farha Foundation, Quebec's leading HIV/AIDS fundraising organization, invites you to join in on its 19th edition of ÇA MARCHE - Quebec's largest walk for the fight against AIDS, taking place in the streets of Montreal on Sunday, September 18, starting at 9 am. Over 5,000 people are expected to take part in this annual event to help the some 20,000 men, women and children living with this disease.

Participants will be entertained from the time they arrive at Parc Émilie-Gamelin, the walk's starting point, and right until the finish line. ÇA MARCHE 2011 spokespeople Cousin Vinny of Virgin Radio and Marie-Andrée Fallu of Rouge FM will emcee the opening ceremonies. Following this, walkers will be warmed up by an energizing routine from aerobics group, À Pied Levés, and will hear from Montreal folk-rock singer Colin Moore, marking his second appearance at the walk.

During the 7 kilometre route, participants will be entertained by dance troupe Isabelle Savoie École des Arts de la Scène who will perform at Parc de l'Espoir, Club Bolo will put together an exciting line dance, and to show their support, members of St-James United Church will offer free hugs to walkers as they pass by! By the end of the walk, participants will be brought back to the finish line with the energizing drumbeat courtesy of the musical animation group Zuruba.

To show appreciation for their fundraising efforts, the Farha Foundation will recognize all walkers who raise $1,000 or more as a Star Walker. Prizes will be awarded to the top three Star Walkers, including: a 55" LG LCD television, (for first place); a Michael Kors runway watch and a pair of Nautica sunglasses (for second place), and a gift certificate to Vinnie Gambini's in Marché Central, plus four passes to the Montreal Museum of Fine Arts (for third place). Participants can continue their fundraising efforts well after the walk, as the campaign will go on until World AIDS on December 1.

The Farha Foundation would like to thank the sponsors of ÇA MARCHE 2011 whose contributions help make the walk possible. They include major sponsor Bristol-Myers Squibb Canada, platinum sponsor Gilead, gold sponsors: CTV, Cytronic, the City of Montreal, Merck, and TD Bank, as well as bronze sponsors: Abbott, Fugues, Métromédia Plus, Red 2 Communications, Rouge FM, Theratechnologies, Virgin Radio and Zenergy Communications. A big thank you goes out to Cineplex as well, who donated movie tickets in a contest held for ÇA MARCHE 2011 walkers.

There's still time to join ÇA MARCHE 2011 and help the campaign reach its objective of $400,000. Interested participants can walk individually or in a group by registering at camarche.ca.

About ÇA MARCHE

ÇA MARCHE ( camarche.ca ), one of the first Farha Foundation's event to emerge in 1993, is an annual walkathon of 7 kilometres, gathering thousands of persons aiming at raising funds and sensitizing the population to the HIV/AIDS cause.

To maximize awareness of the event, the Farha Foundation asks you to spread the word to as many people as possible. In doing so, you will contribute directly to helping those living with HIV/AIDS, a disease that currently infects as many as two people a day in Quebec. Bring your friends and family to inspire our community to support the cause. Sign up now at camarche.ca.

About the FARHA FOUNDATION

The Farha Foundation is Quebec's leading fundraising organization committed to helping men, women and children living with HIV/AIDS. The events organized by the Farha Foundation also serve to raise public awareness of the AIDS pandemic.

Since 1992, the Farha Foundation has distributed over $8.3 million to some 76 organizations throughout Quebec that provide care and services (housing, medication, food, palliative care, homecare, etc.), as well as AIDS prevention and education programs. An advisory committee determines which organizations the Foundation supports and ensures that the funds are put to the best possible use.
