Steelcase Surface Materials Honored at the Crystal Alpha Awards Gala

Specially-Designed Textiles Recognized for Community Contribution

New York - June 2, 2010 - Steelcase Inc. (NYSE: SCS) announced today that it was honored at the Crystal Alpha Awards gala for its integration of the alphaPOLLACK Collection into its Select Surfaces offering. A portion of the proceeds from the sale of these fabrics directly benefits the Alpha Workshops.

The event celebrated the 15th anniversary of the Alpha Workshops, a not-for-profit design studio located in New York City that trains and employs people living with HIV/AIDS in the decorative arts. For the alphaPOLLACK Collection, Pollack's design director Mark Pollack commissioned original artwork from designers at the Alpha studios and used these designs as inspiration for their fabrics.

"At Steelcase, we recognize that great design is found in many places, and we are honored to receive this recognition for our support of Pollack and the Alpha Workshops," said Julie Daly, Steelcase's director of surface materials. "This unique partnership allows us to offer a wonderful range of choices to designers - and one that gives back to the community in a meaningful way."

These designs were printed, drawn or painted by artists at the Alpha Workshops and then made into fabrics for the alphaPOLLACK Collection. Eight patterns from the collection were chosen for the offering based on how well they would work with Steelcase products, and were launched earlier this spring.

Julie Daly accepted the award for Steelcase at the event at New York City's Prince George Hotel Ballroom. Brian Schwagerl, Hearst Corporation's vice president of corporate real estate and facilities planning, presented the award. The event also hosted a silent auction, with all proceeds benefitting the Alpha Workshops' training and employment programs in the decorative arts for individuals living with HIV/AIDS.
