Global Fund to Fight AIDS, TB and Malaria Grateful for Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II’s Contributions to Health and Well-being
GENEVA -- The Global Fund to Fight AIDS, TB and Malaria is saddened by the death of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II and grateful for her contributions over the years to improve health and well-being around the world. During her reign, the United Kingdom has been a strong partner of the Global Fund and its generous investments over the years have helped the Global Fund partnership save more than 44 million lives.
“The Queen understood the power of her influence and selflessly dedicated herself to a lifetime of service across the Commonwealth and the world,” said Peter Sands, Executive Director of the Global Fund. “Her legacy will live on through the lives she touched and the service that will continue in her name for many years to come.”
The Queen was a patron of more than 600 charities during her lifetime, many working to improve health issues ranging from preventable blindness to cancer and cardiovascular issues to increasing access to quality health services across the Commonwealth. As the Head of State for many of the Global Fund partnership’s donors and several of the countries where we work, the quiet compassion in her leadership was a consistent presence.
“Queen Elizabeth held a special status in many hearts. She was a steadfast mentor in a world of change and a rare example of dedicated and dutiful leadership, said Dr. Donald Kaberuka, Chair of the Global Fund Board. “She was, and always will be one of the giants of our time.”
The Global Fund partnership is committed to carry on her legacy in future collaborations with the United Kingdom as we work to end the deadliest diseases and help everyone live life to their full potential.
“We admire her dedication, her devotion to duty and service and, above all, her compassion for humanity. Her example will continue to inspire us,” said Lady Roslyn Morauta, Vice-Chair of the Global Fund Board. “Our thoughts and prayers are with the Royal Family, the people of the United Kingdom and the Commonwealth.”
