ECDC Director vacancy now open

The vacancy notice for the next Director of the European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control (ECDC) has now been published in the EU Official Journal, marking the beginning of the recruitment process for the most senior role in the Centre.

The next ECDC Director will have a key role in achieving the Centre’s vision to improve lives in Europe and globally, by applying scientific excellence and empowering EU Member States, the European Commission, and other partners to drive public health policy and practice.

Accountable to ECDC’s Management Board, the Director is the Centre’s legal representative and public face, takes overall responsibility for its operations, and ensures that it achieves its objectives. The appointment is for an initial period of five years, with a possible prolongation for a maximum five years. The post is available from 16 June 2024.
Application process and deadline

The recruitment process for this position is handled by the European Commission, which will provide a shortlist to ECDC’s Management Board for them to appoint the successful candidate.

The deadline for the submission of applications is 26 June 2023, 12:00 noon CEST

About ECDC

ECDC is a public health agency of the European Union, operational since 2005. Its mission is to identify, assess and communicate current and emerging threats to human health posed by infectious diseases, special disease issues and outbreaks of unknown origin. The Centre is based in Stockholm, Sweden, and employs around 370 staff.

ECDC collects, analyses, and shares data on more than 50 infectious diseases and special disease issues such as COVID-19, influenza, HIV/AIDS, hepatitis, measles, tuberculosis, antimicrobial resistance, and vaccination, among others. By working with experts throughout Europe, the Centre pools Europe's health knowledge to develop authoritative, robust and independent scientific opinions about the risks posed by current and emerging infectious diseases.
