Press Release
ACT UP NY and The Love Tank Team-up on Guides and Zines
June 18, 2024
ACT UP NY and The Love Tank CIC – a not-for-profit that promotes health & wellbeing of underserved communities in the UK – have announced a collaboration to bring vital harm reduction and health information to the US.
The collaboration sees the launch of new versions of five of The Love Tank’s existing health resources, including guides to the STI prevention tool DoxyPEP, talking to health professionals about HIV PrEP, and a harm reduction guide for anabolic steroids. The new versions of the guide include language and information specific for the US and New York-based communities that ACT UP NY supports.
Speaking about the project, The Love Tank’s Head of Research and Community Knowledge Generation, Dr Ben Weil says: “We are thrilled to be working with ACT UP NY to help bring vital resources and information to communities across the pond who might benefit from them. Our work is deeply indebted to the radical practices and approaches of ACT UP collectives across the globe and we are proud to support the ongoing efforts of ACT UP NY to serve and nurture their communities.”
Reflecting on the collaboration, Jake Tolan, a member of ACT UP NY, says: “For over 30 years, ACT UP has been advocating for the health and wellbeing of queer and HIV+ people when US healthcare systems have failed to meet our needs. After seeing the incredible work that The Love Tank was doing to meet the same needs for people in the UK, it felt only natural to collaborate. We’re so excited to work with them to bring some of their incredible research-based, LGBT-competent public health guides to a new audience.”
The resources, hosted on a dedicated webpage on The Love Tank’s queerhealth.info/actupny, will be available at ACT UP’s Pride Health Fair on June 30th and shared at future ACT UP events moving forward.
