PRIME MINISTER STEPHEN HARPER IS SILENT ON HIV/AIDS

September 23, 2015 - Over 75,000 Canadians are infected with HIV, yet Canadian Prime Minister Stephen Harper is silent on HIV and AIDS. Stephen Harper's failure to acknowledge the exemplary work being done by Dr. Julio Montaner and his team of researchers whose, "Treatment as Pervention", is being adapted around the world, is not that of a leader!

Stephen Harper has been invited but he has NOT attended an International AIDS conference or any HIV/AIDS related conference. It is obvious the Prime Minister has little understanding of what is needed to address this epidemic given he continues to ignore the scientific evidence.

Prime Minster Stephen Harper has never talked to Canadians about HIV/AIDS in Canada. Our men, our women, our youth, our aboriginal community, our LGBTQ+2 community, and our seniors are being infected with HIV, and the Primie Minister remails silent.

As an individual who has lived with HIV for 31 years (since 1984) and having spent over 20 years advocating, creating HIV and AIDS awareness, I am troubled that HIV/AIDS is not a priority for our government. Stephen Harper has a duty to speak to Canadians about HIV/AIDS infections, prevention, treatment and care in Canada.

The Harper government is ignoring the fact that over 75,000 Canadians (and rising) have been infected with HIV. We need a government that informs Canadians of the risk of being infected with HIV.

Around the world government leaders are praised for speaking out about HIV/AIDS. In the United states, former Presidenst Bill Clinton and George W. Bush, along with present day U.S. President Barack Obama's administration have all spoken out to fight against HIV/AIDS. Former U.S. President Ronald Regan was ridiculed for his faliure to speak out and take action on AIDS. While in office, Prime Minister Stephen Harper has never discussed HIV/AIDS with Canadians.

All Canadians should be concerned by Stephen Harpers failure to address the HIV/AIDS edpidemic.
